Overall we have about 600-700 participants for the whole week! Not only was this week focused on fundraising, but also safety awareness!

Here's how YOU can help!

Hello all! This is a really important week that is coming up and I just wanted to emphasize that! We have a remarkable opportunity to be able to help someone who is desperately in need at this time in her life! This wonderful young woman needs so much support at this trying time in her life. I can't even imagine some of the feelings and thoughts that she has had over the past few months. I do know, that she is strong and will not let this bring her down! I have had the privilege of meeting her only once before for a very short time, but I could tell this has changed her so much and she needs our help! There are so many ways you can help;

-Come to any of the activities during Safety Week starting tomorrow October 18th-22nd.
-Donate to the "Provo Survivor" Fund at any Utah Community Credit Union (UCCU).
-Put any spare change you have in the jars there are for her around UVU campus.
-Send letters of encouragement to the address listed in the previous post.
-If you are a religious person, pray for her!

I'm sure there are so many more ways in which you can help this remarkable young woman, these are just a few ways. We will be selling "Provo Survivor" t-shirts this week at all of our events for just $5, as well as selling wristbands that say, "Provo Survivor, we stand with you!" for just $3. If you would like one, but are not able to come to these events, please contact me at kaylambees@yahoo.com.

Last thing, I wanted to express gratitude for being able to find ways to help her over the past month or so. It has been interesting because after all this time of being able to help her, I feel as if I know her well. She has been through so much and still has a long road of recovery in front of her, each and every one of us can make that road shorter and shorter for her to travel. This is a call for charity from each one of us, a chance to help one of our fellow human beings, what a great opportunity to serve someone! Thank you to all who have helped thus far! We can truly make a difference in the world and it starts with something small!

Save a Life with Memories
On Thursday June 9th, 2010 a young woman’s life was changed dramatically.  That day this young woman was badly and brutally beaten, raped, and left for dead on the Provo River Trail.  Somehow she had the strength and will to survive by crawling towards a sidewalk where she was then found. She amazingly survived from this, but it is not the end of the tragic and horrifying trial.  She’s now faced with a long road to recovery physically, emotionally, spiritually, and even financially.
October 9th was four months to the day of the attack.  Her medical bills from surgeries have cost more than $200,000 and still needing at least 3 more surgeries!  Here we find a wonderful young woman put in a very difficult situation because of one man’s horrible act of violence and attempted murder!  She still hasn’t been able to speak well enough to testify against the man even after her treatment thus far.  At this point she has doctors worried because her jaw was fractured and she simply cannot take the pain of chewing and has become severely under weight.  When she gets the money she’ll have her jaw repaired, so she can speak and eat normally.
There are many of us who may not know her, but love her too much to let this single act define who she is for the rest of her life.  This is where this brave survivor needs OUR help the most!  The Applied Behavioral Science Club at UVU has strived to raise money for her recovery and thus far has raised a few thousand dollars for the young woman, but it’s like hiking up a very steep mountain for an hour in the wind, cold, and rain only to look up to find you’ve probably got about another 48 hours of hiking and climbing straight up in the same conditions.  It’s that daunting!
How you can help fight back is to lend a helping hand, a willing heart, a gentle tear, a loving smile, a generous act, or a well wish!  A Professor at UVU has started a “Pay It Forward” challenge and we want this to spread.  The end result will allow the Provo Survivor to receive financial relief, which is the ultimate goal, but also receive emotional support!  She needs to know we value her as a strong woman!  We want her to know that this doesn’t define her!  We want her to know that she can succeed in life by being the brave soul she is and by leaning on our shoulders!  She needs to know we love her and support her, even if we may not know her personally!
Saving her life with memories will work in two ways.  First, we are asking that you participate in the same “Pay It Forward” challenge that this Professor has suggested.  The challenge asks that you donate at the very least 50 cents to her cause.  However, don’t stop there and find 10 people that would like to donate at least 50 cents as well.  Then have each of those 10 people find a at least 2 people to donate likewise.  There aren’t limits!  If you’d have more you’d like to ask to donate feel free to do so.  Even just getting 2 people to help will help show this woman our support for her.  Once you have gathered the donations you were able to collect send a check for that amount to the following address:
Provo Survivor Fund c/o Mail Stop
MS 115
800 W. UNIVERSITY PARKWAY
OREM, UTAH 84058

The mail sent to that address will be received by the Professor in charge of the Applied Behavioral Science Club at Utah Valley University, which is organizing this effort.
Second, please send a note, letter card, nice thought or quote, or something to lift her spirits.  All of those sent will be given to her as a surprise around Christmas time.  Children can even help by drawing a sweet picture for her, if they’d like to help in the cause.  What a Christmas this will be to remember for her!  That’s what we’d like to have happen.  Instead of looking back 10 years from now and she only remembers a day of turmoil she will remember a time and days others put in to support and show her love through this trying time.  Is this not the spirit of Christmas?  That is how we all can pitch in to Save a Life With Memories!  Bless you all for your support, prayers, and love!
PLEASE SHARE THIS IN ANYWAY YOU CAN WITH ALL YOU CAN.  DO IT THROUGH FACEBOOK, E-MAIL, OR ANY OTHER WAY!  LET’S GET THE WORD OUT AND SAVE A LIFE WITH MEMORIES!
